Literary Agents

I have been lucky, so far! I have sent MSs to publishers directly, and got accepted, so I haven't had to use a literary agent. However, I think the whole system needs to be overhauled as it is too subjective; I read that a writer, who had won the US National Book Award, sent the same manuscript to over a dozen publishers under a different name and was rejected, including by his own publisher! Better yet, Saul Bellow, who won both a Pulitzer and a Nobel Prize for literature, was also rejected by publishers!

If the system is so subjective, it may be better to use guerilla marketing to get in front of a publisher...
